News & Notes:

  • Halloween/Dia de los Muertos - We will be celebrating both Halloween and Dia de los Muertos on October 31st.  Students may wear their costumes to school.  Families are welcome to join us for our class celebration.  Here's the timing for the day:
    • 10:00 - PBiS trick or treating
    • 10:15 - 11:00  Class celebration (Families are welcome to join us!)
    • 11:00 - Parade
    • 11:40 - Dismissal
  • Ofrenda - to help celebrate Dia de los Muertos, the kids are welcome to bring in a photo of someone they loved who has passed away to display on our class "ofrenda".
  • Save the Date - We will conclude our study of Civics with a special presentation.  Our class will be participating in a "simulated congressional hearing".  The students will be the "experts" on the constitution and answer questions from a panel (Mrs. Metzger, Dr. Hall from our school board, Mr. Hales from Wayne RESA, and a representative from our congressional office.)  We will begin working on the project next week but I wanted to share the date with you so you can plan on joining us if you are able.  Save the date - Wednesday, November 16 10:30-11:30.
  • Scholastic - The next Scholastic Book order will be placed after school on Monday, October 31.  Orders can be placed online - click here to follow the directions.

What are we learning:

  • Language Arts - We are listening to "Esperanza Rising" and working on building reading comprehension skills through making connections.
  • Word study - Don't forget - students are able to retest their spelling words on Friday if they would like to improve their scores!
  • Math - We will begin focusing on multiplication using array models.
  • Social Studies - We are studying civics and specifically focusing on the constitution and the Bill of Rights.
  • Science -  We will continue to study electrical circuits and how energy transfers.
  • Cooking - We'll be cooking pan de muertos (bread of the dead) on Thursday.
