Michigan Open Book Project
The MI Open Book Project is a multi-year initiative funded as part of the Technology Readiness Infrastructure Grant (TRIG) which will empower groups of master teachers to come together, collaborate, and develop a open education resource for use in classrooms around Michigan.
All final products are ready. Even cooler, the source files (iBooks Author and InDesign formats) will also be available to download and add your own content. |
Third GradeThe 3rd Grade Michigan Studies book will consist of four major units with sections within each focused on the four main disciplines and public policy. ![]()

Fourth GradeUsing the context of the United States, fourth grade students learn significant social studies concepts within an increasingly complex social environment. They examine fundamental concepts in geography, civics and government, and economics through the lens of Michigan history and the United States. Expectations that particularly lend themselves to being taught through a historic, geographic, civic, or economic lens are denoted.

Fifth GradeThe fifth grade social studies content expectations mark a departure from the social studies approach taken in previous grades. Building upon the geography, civics and government, and economics concepts of the United States mastered in fourth grade and historical inquiry from earlier grades, the fifth grade expectations begin a more discipline-centered approach concentrating on the early history of the United States.

Sixth Grade
With a shift towards World Geography in the 6th grade and different patterns that could be traversed even with a newer/clearer direction, the World Geography team wanted to take the best approaches employed by different organizations and provide something unique but familiar, an additional resource useful whether you're teaching through the five themes of geography, focusing on spatial thinking, or still looking at regions.
